Brain health has become one of my passions after my own acquired brain injury in 2014. I worked extremely hard at my own recovery and my constant research on brain health has me updating my list of research continually. Here are my latest finds:
Huperzine A: This is an active ingredient in TCM, club moss. This ingredient helps neurotransmitters which are extremely important for memory.
Phosphatidyl Serine: This is a nutrient that helps regenerate neurons and help mental capacity. People with dementia taking it, have seen a reverse in their symptoms according to Dr Khalsa who specializes in dementia care. He recommends taking 300 mg a day, broken into 100 mg with each meal, 3 times a day.
Vitamin E: This vitamin shields neurons from free radicals that damage cells and can also help regenerate neurotransmitters.
Coenzyme Q10: This nutrient helps neurons produce energy for proper function. It is also extremely good for the heart!
Ginkgo: This herb maximizes blood flow to the brain and helps protect neurons from free radicals.
DHA: DHA is usually manufactured from algae and is an important building block of fat for brain function. (Do not mistake for DHEA!)
Eating cold water fish will always be a great way to feed your brain health because of the fatty acid compounds that fish have. Hemp oil is a choice for people who are either vegan or allergic to fish. Hemp oil has a great presence of fatty acid chains, only plant based.
